Volunteer

At Healthy Options we are very grateful for the generosity and creativity of our dedicated volunteers. Volunteers offer their time and expertise to help fundraise as well as helping in a wide variety of behind-the-scenes ways. If you would like to volunteer to help, click the link and get in touch:

Emma Grant

Emma Grant works as a fundraiser and project manager for Healthy Options. She has over 20 years of experience working in community development and has long wished to run a community campaign for Healthy Options.
“When I started working for the charity I was struck by the catchphrase ‘If the problem’s in the community, the solution is in the community’. We apply this to our clients with the ethos of social prescriptions. Now it’s time to apply it to the charity’s financial sustainability. I’m delighted to be working with volunteers on the campaign and getting to meet more of our clients.”
When Emma is not busy fundraising she enjoys walking, meditating, reading and being a mum.

Rena MacDonald Volunteer Healthy Options Oban

Rena MacDonald

Rena is a fundraising volunteer. Rena first became involved after being referred to her GP ahead of a scheduled foot operation. Healthy Options supported Rena to become as physically fit as possible ahead of the operation and helped with her recovery post-op.
Rena volunteered to help with fundraising as a way of giving back to Healthy Options and playing her part to ensure the same service she benefitted from is available for others.

Clare Johnson Volunteer LOHO Argyll

Clare Johnson

Clare Johnson is a fundraising volunteer. Clare was a client of Healthy Options and has now completed the programme, graduating to Stay Active. Thanks to the support of Healthy Options staff, she was able to rehome a big hairy sweetheart of a dog and can often be found plodding around Argyll in the rain with her four-legged friend.

Phill Dexter

Phill is heavily involved with a few different projects around Oban and the surrounding areas. Phill became involved in Healthy Options through a friend, who initially asked him to help serve tea and coffee (dressed as an elf!) after people’s Christmas gym sessions. Talking to the clients and staff as he served them, Phill saw the impact that Healthy Options was having on the local community and people. Phill was delighted when he was asked to help-out with fundraising as he saw another way in which he could give back to the local community, a community he felt so welcomed into when he moved to the Oban area 10 years ago.

Marlyn Turbitt

Marlyn is a retired professional with a big interest in overall health and wellbeing. She started doing Tai Chi two years ago and really enjoyed it, got diverted into QiGong during lockdown and subsequently qualified to teach QiGong Shibashi. She teaches the class in Taynuilt along with Emma. Marlyn loves the way it combines just gentle movement with breathing yet has powerful beneficial effects on the whole body. Marlyn also teaches Scottish Country Dancing and enjoys gardening and growing her own vegetables.
